Popeyes Employees Sprayed With Fire Extinguisher

Daytona Beach, FL – Police are looking for three men they say sprayed a group of employees at a Daytona Beach Popeyes restaurant.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, three black males in ski masks entered the Ridgewood Avenue store through the north side of the business, with one of them carrying a fire extinguisher last night (September 8th).

Police do not know where they got the extinguisher or how.

Once inside, the male began to spray the extinguisher at the front counter of the business. The report says that due to the extinguisher’s agent, employees were exposed to a white powder that contained 6 potassium bicarbonate, liquid water and evaporating fluorocarbon, which is toxic.

After spraying the employees, the three males fled from the store headed westbound. A K-9 unit was dispatched, but police were unable to apprehend the suspects.

While on scene, the fire extinguisher that was used to commit the crime was retrieved as well as a mask one of the black males was wearing.

The five employees who were sprayed by the men complained of burning sensations throughout their body and some complained about burning eyes and throats. Each employee filed a report and said they wanted to press charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately.

Photo and video evidence was obtained by DBPD, but it has not been released yet.
