Now Woodstock 50 Is Moving to Maryland …But Who’s Playing?

According to The New York Times, the embattled on-again, off-again commemoration of Woodstock 50 has found a new home in Maryland at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The event, which is co-produced by original Woodstock promoter Michael Lang, is scheduled to take place from August 16-18, but there is no word on who will perform.

What started as a decent idea seems to be cursed. First the festival was apparently canceled, then it wasn’t, then there were money issues, then new investors stepped up, but as it stands now, there’s no confirmed venue for Woodstock 50. Event founder Michael Lang was hoping to host the festival in Watkins Glen, New York, but since it appears that isn’t going to happen, he end up in a venue in the Baltimore area.

Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland only holds 20,000 people, so if the show happens there it won’t be the scope of what they had originally envisioned but on the plus side, it has a roof. However, the question nobody can answer is who will play? Even if this new location works out, artists originally announced as part of the lineup don’t seem to know what’s going on either.
