I’ve never been to a psychic and, after reading this, will never go to one.

Sherry Uwanawich, 29, is a self-proclaimed Gypsy Healer. She says it was how the women in her family make money.

Back when she was 17, she was living in Houston, and met a woman at a mall in Houston. This woman was particularly vulnerable because she had recently lost her mother and was depressed. Uwanawich managed to convince the woman that there was a curse on her and her family and would need time and money to remove it.

Over the course of the next seven years, the woman would come see her a couple times a week, and give her money for candles, crystals, and “spiritual work.” At one point, the woman gave Uwanawich hundreds of thousands of dollars that she had received as an inheritance when her father passed.

Eventually Uwanawich relocated to South Florida to be closer to her family, and only came clean when the victim made a trip to Florida to visit her.

The victim contacted a lawyer after realizing she’d been scammed and Uwanawich was just sentenced to three years and four months in federal prison for wire fraud. She also has to pay the woman all that money back.
