62-Year-Old Died In A Slipknot Moshpit

Well, I think my fate may end up being the same as an old man’s.

62-year-old Richard Valadez was attending Knotfest, which is held outside of Chicago, on Sunday night. He had apparently had some drinks and had been enjoying himself throughout the day, chatting up other concert goers, and even hitting some of the mosh pits.

About an hour into Slipknot’s headlining set, the pits apparently got a little rougher, and Valadez was hit so hard, he actually fell into the grass outside the mosh pit. One witness said, “He seized as people were trying to help him up, so we started calling for help.”

For whatever reason, it took emergency responders a while to find their way through the chaos of the concert crowd and get to Valadez. Unfortunately for Valadez, help arrived too late and he passed away.

It’s a heavy reminder that I’ve been told I won’t be young forever. Doesn’t mean I’ll slow down, or stay out of the pits…I might just think about it from time-t0-time while being slammed around at a metal show. After all, what better way to enjoy a concert!

Tonight I’m raising the metal horns for Richard Valadez!
