Autopsy Report: Port Orange Murder Suspect Killed Himself

Port Orange, FL – The main suspect in the murder of a 32-year-old Port Orange woman last month committed suicide by hanging.

That’s the determination of an autopsy report recently released by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office for 37-year-old Thomas McMullen, Jr.

That report – which you can read in full by clicking here – shows that the medical examiner found wounds on McMullen’s left wrist along with a ligature mark around his neck.

No mention was made of toxicology results, which the Port Orange Police Department had said earlier this month would be necessary before making a final determination on how McMullen died.

POPD found McMullen’s body in a wooded area along West International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach on August 31st, close to where officers had found Diana Kessler (photo below)‘s missing vehicle.

Officers responding to a 911 call at the Hatteras Drive home of McMullen’s parents four days earlier found Kessler dead in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor, with over 100 stab wounds on her body.

POPD hasn’t spoken to a possible motive for the crime, but investigators have said that McMullen and Kessler were friends who did not appear to have any kind of romantic relationship with one another.

Kessler’s funeral service will take place Saturday (September 15th) at Port Orange Church of the Nazarene on Taylor Road.

Nearly $12,000 has been raised on GoFundMe since her death to cover the funeral expenses.
